WE ARE CURRENTLY FULL TO THE BRIM!
THANK YOU ALL.
WE'LL LET YOU KNOW IF WE NEED MORE SUPPLIES.
Keep an eye on the blog for specific requests, but otherwise hold onto your stuff for now.
A crafter without a stash is a like a child without a toy - it just shouldn't be. As I knit away on toys to give to families I'm not just making something for them, I'm processing my own sadness too.
There will be a lot of crafters out there who have lost the means to craft, who will be starting from scratch. Knitters without needles, sewers without thread, felters without fibre. They'll need their craft more than ever while they cope with the stress of rebuilding their lives.
Most of us crafters have more stash than we really need and duplicates of things we could afford to give. We can help in the way crafters have always helped each other, by passing on the tools of our trade.
Pull together some crafting supplies and make a re-stash kit. Something like:
- yarn, knitting needles, yarn needle and little scissors
- yarn, crochet hooks, yarn needle and little scissors
- fabric, threads, needles, pins, scissors
- felt, threads, needles, pins, scissors
- rovings, drop spindle, bobbins
- canvass or linen, embroidery hoop, threads, needles and little scissors
Make sure you clearly label your donation with re-stash a crafter, and the type of craft suitable for your kit (knit, crochet, felting, sewing, toy-making, embroidery etc).
And you can help too by finding people who need new stash. If you know anyone who has lost their stash, or know anyone who knows anyone, or you know people who work directly with people in affected communities, please let us know. You can also print an A4 flyer with our contact details so someone who wants to get re-stashed can contact us.
Please contact me directly soozs[dot]com[at]gmail[dot]com with questions or suggestions, especially if you have personal contacts in affected communities where people might benefit from crafting supplies.
Kits can be dropped off at the drop off points listed in the sidebar, but they will all end up at Meet Me at Mike's, so if you are mailing in or can drop off directly that would be great.

That is a wonderful idea. I will see what I can put together.
I agree it is a fabulous idea. I imagine that many would find it hard to justify buying craft supplies from their emergency funds and yet we all know how therapeutic our creating can be. That will be my job for tomorrow! Caroline
This is a really lovely idea. I wish I could contribute from Canada. Have been contributing in other ways though. Keep up the great work.
Ill raid my craft room and see if I can get a knitter back on their feet, and maybe even a sewer with my drawers of random.

Hello,
I am preparing my stash!
~ Gabriela ~
OK, I have culled my stash and got a lot of nice. small project kits ready.
BUT,
I also have a few unfinished long-stitch projects that I have no plans to finish :( Is it appropriate to donate these 2 unfinished projects, WITH all the threads, and patterns and rest of the kit, or is it going to be seen as just "dumping"
I don't want to waste people's time and space if this is not acceptable so I would appreciate your advice.

In Canberra, The Crafty Frog in Kambah is taking embroidery items
The White Dragon in Philip is taking paper craft and scrapbooking items
Stitch'n'Time in Philip is taking knitting and crochet items.
Canberra Quilters and ScQuilters have started a 'restash the stash' project too.
I have put together something and will mail it tomorrow. I think this is a great idea; those people have more urgent needs for their money but they may feel good when they can start a new project with the kit they receive.
Such a great idea! You've got a parcel on its way from Japan!

Long Story Short, I had a little girl born at 17 weeks and she did not make it.. she died in my arms.
So, What I am doing now is decorating terracotta pots, plaques with my photos, using unfinished wood and baskets to donate to other hospitals, doctors and parents who go through the same thing.
You can see some on a website I dedicated to her
http://www.nicholenoelle.com/
or on http://www.ericasartsandcrafts.com/ where I note who I donate what to.
So, I wanted to ask you if you had any art supplies, terracotta pots, paints, unfinished wood, brushes or anything I could use to help create projects.
I think it is a great project, but I am running out of supplies and would like to know if there is anything you could do to help donate.
Thank you in advance and I appreciate you taking the time to read and consider this.
